The Dubai Metro and Tram will operate continuously for over 43 hours starting December 31, as part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) efforts to manage New Year’s Eve traffic and ensure smooth public transport. The Metro will run from 5 am on December 31 until the end of January 1, while the Tram will operate from 6 am on December 31 until 1 am on January 2. To further ease congestion, the RTA will deploy a fleet of 1,400 free buses.
Hussain Al Bana, Executive Director of Traffic at the RTA, emphasized the importance of using public transport to avoid traffic disruptions. Specific measures, such as closing Dubai Mall Metro Station after 5 pm or when it reaches capacity, will be implemented to prevent overcrowding. Commuters are encouraged to use nearby stations like Business Bay for access to celebration areas. The RTA will monitor high-traffic zones and adjust bus deployment as needed.
Signage systems, including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and real-time message boards, will direct traffic and provide updates on road closures, alternative routes, and parking spots. Additionally, public parks will remain open until 1 am for visitors. Dubai’s New Year celebrations will feature fireworks and a drone show from 36 locations, with key venues including Burj Park, Global Village, and Bluewaters.
