Riyadh: The Saudi Ministry of Interior has announced a strict prohibition on recording and publishing footage from surveillance cameras without legal authorization. In a notice issued on January 6, 2025, the ministry emphasized that this regulation aligns with the provisions of the ‘Use of Security Surveillance Cameras’ law.
Under the law, copying or sharing such footage requires prior approval from the Presidency of State Security Ministry, which may be granted only in response to a court order or investigative agency request. Violators face a fine of 20,000 riyals, with the same penalty applicable to those who destroy surveillance cameras or tamper with recorded footage.
