Traffic Violations Drop by 24% in 2024 Compared to 2023: Insights from Kuwait’s General Traffic Department

The Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at Kuwait’s General Traffic Department, Colonel Fahd Al-Essa, announced a significant decline in traffic violations in 2024, with a 24% reduction compared to 2023. According to the department’s annual statistics, a total of 1,926,320 speeding violations were recorded in 2024. Additionally, seat belt violations amounted to 152,000, and 27,000 cases of causing disturbing noises were registered.

Colonel Al-Essa further detailed that 3,139 violators and 8,455 vehicles were referred to the impoundment garage during the year. Weekly campaigns conducted by the Traffic and Operations Sector, under the leadership of Major General Yousef Al-Khudda, resulted in 40,000 traffic violations, 55 reckless drivers arrested, and 132 vehicles and 89 motorcycles impounded. Furthermore, 37 juveniles caught driving without licenses were referred to Juvenile Prosecution.

The patrols also arrested 25 individuals with outstanding absence or residency law violations and 23 people without identification. Three individuals were referred to the General Department for Combating Drugs due to abnormal behavior.

Traffic Operations handled 2,276 reports, including 1,017 minor collisions and 247 incidents involving injuries. Rescue Police patrols detained 38 people for drug-related offenses, 41 for drunkenness, and 12 for possession of intoxicating substances. Additionally, 193 security-wanted persons and 44 individuals without identification were apprehended. Emergency Police patrols addressed 31 disputes, issued 10,283 violations, and seized 42 vehicles wanted by judicial and security authorities.

The comprehensive efforts of Kuwait’s traffic enforcement agencies underscore a steadfast commitment to improving road safety and enforcing the law effectively.
