Kuwait’s Court of Cassation has upheld the death penalty for a Bedoun (stateless individual) convicted of murdering his father and attempting to kill his mother during a domestic dispute in the Al-Firdous area. The attack on the mother failed due to a firearm malfunction.
The tragic event unfolded after a quarrel escalated during breakfast. The accused admitted in court that he was under the influence of multiple drugs at the time. He recounted that the argument started with his mother and escalated when his father intervened, resulting in a physical altercation. In a fit of rage, he retrieved a firearm and fatally shot his father in the chest.
During his trial, the accused claimed he was unaware of his actions, stating, “I only learned what happened after I woke up in the detectives’ cell, where I was told I had killed my father.” His confession came after the effects of the drugs wore off.
The court’s ruling underscores the grave consequences of domestic violence and substance abuse, sending a strong message about the seriousness of such crimes.
