Kuwait City: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health has mandated the meningitis vaccine (ACYW-135) for all individuals traveling from Kuwait to perform Umrah or visit the Prophet’s Mosque in Saudi Arabia. This requirement follows directives issued by Saudi Arabian authorities and applies to adults and children over the age of one.
Pilgrims are advised to receive the vaccine at least 10 days prior to their journey, as it takes 10 to 15 days for the body to build immunity against meningitis bacteria. The vaccine is widely available at health centers and travel clinics across Kuwait, and its protective certificate remains valid for three years.
While the vaccine generally has minimal side effects, some recipients might experience mild pain or a slight cough after the injection. Additionally, the Ministry has urged pilgrims to wear masks in crowded areas to further safeguard their health.
This health measure aims to enhance safety for Umrah pilgrims and visitors, ensuring compliance with Saudi health regulations.
