Ex-Interior Officer Gets 15-Year Sentence for Failed Fintas Robbery

The Criminal Court, led by Counselor Mutab Al-Ardi, has handed a 15-year prison sentence with hard labor to a former Ministry of Interior officer for his role in a robbery and attempted heist at a money exchange office in Fintas.

The incident took place in August when the defendant stole a taxi and tried to rob the exchange office. Armed with a firearm, he threatened an employee but failed to complete the robbery due to a malfunctioning weapon. He then fled the scene using the stolen taxi as a getaway vehicle.

Following the incident, the Ahmadi Governorate Investigations Department, part of the Criminal Security Sector, launched a thorough investigation. Detectives gathered evidence, analyzed surveillance footage, and tracked the suspect’s movements, ultimately identifying and arresting him. The accused later confessed to the crime and disclosed where he had hidden the firearm.

During the trial, the defense requested a psychiatric evaluation to assess the accused’s mental state at the time of the crime. However, the court dismissed this request and found him guilty on all charges. This swift action by the Criminal Security Sector highlights their commitment to addressing armed robbery cases and ensuring justice.
