Kyiv: Ukraine voiced strong support for Donald Trump’s recent proposal to reduce oil prices, with the former US President claiming that such a move could “immediately” end Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump emphasized the critical role of oil prices in sustaining Russia’s war efforts. He suggested that a significant drop in oil prices, potentially achieved through actions by Saudi Arabia and OPEC, could halt Russia’s ability to fund its military activities.
Ukrainian Presidential Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak echoed Trump’s sentiments on the social media platform X, stating, “We fully support the efforts to lower oil prices. A strict price cap and further reductions in the cost of Russian oil are essential for global security.”
Russia’s economy is heavily dependent on revenue from oil and gas exports. Western nations have already imposed sanctions, including capping the price of Russian crude oil, to undermine its financial capacity to continue the war.
Trump’s proposal aligns with these sanctions, aiming to intensify economic pressure on Russia by leveraging the global oil market.
