942 Police and Service Personnel Honoured with Gallantry and Service Medals on Republic Day 2025

In a significant tribute to the dedicated service of India’s uniformed personnel, the government announced the award of gallantry and service medals to 942 individuals on the eve of Republic Day 2025. These awards include 95 gallantry medals, recognising exceptional bravery and contributions to public safety. The recipients come from diverse sectors, including police, fire services, home guards, civil defence, and correctional services.

Among the gallantry medal recipients, 28 individuals from areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, 28 from Jammu and Kashmir, three from the northeast, and 36 from various other regions were honoured for their heroic actions. These personnel demonstrated extraordinary courage in their service, such as saving lives, protecting property, and preventing crimes, despite significant risks.

The prestigious President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) was awarded to 101 individuals, with 85 of these going to police personnel. Five awards went to fire service members, while the remaining were shared among civil defence, home guard, and correctional services. Additionally, 746 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM) were conferred, recognising individuals for their diligent and resourceful contributions to their respective fields. These awards highlight the relentless commitment and bravery of those who serve on the frontlines of public safety and security.
