India’s Padma Awards, among the country’s most prestigious civilian honors, are presented annually to individuals who have made exceptional contributions in various fields such as art, social work, public affairs, science, medicine, literature, education, sports, civil service, and industry. The awards are categorized into three levels: Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for high-order distinguished service, and Padma Shri for notable service in any field.
In recognition of her efforts to promote yoga and holistic wellness in Kuwait and the Gulf region, Sheikha Shaikha Ali Al Jaber Al Sabah has been honored with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India. This esteemed accolade celebrates her role in advancing yoga as a comprehensive approach to health, significantly raising awareness and fostering cultural ties between India and Kuwait.
Traditionally announced on the eve of India’s Republic Day, the Padma Awards for 2025 include a total of 139 recipients: 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards. This year’s honorees feature 23 women, 10 individuals in the Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI category, and 13 posthumous awardees.
The awards will be formally presented at Rashtrapati Bhawan, the official residence of the President of India, during a ceremonial event in March or April. The recognition of Sheikha Shaikha Al Jaber Al Sabah highlights yoga’s growing global impact and strengthens the cultural bond between India and Kuwait.
