Education Ministry Initiates Measures to Halve School Bag Weight

The Ministry of Education has announced a series of measures to reduce the weight of school bags by up to 50%, following directives from Minister of Education Jalal Al-Tabtabaei.

According to a statement from the Ministry, collaborative efforts among key sectors such as educational research, curricula, general education, and finance have resulted in practical solutions that ensure both educational effectiveness and student safety. A major initiative involves printing second-semester textbooks for the 2024-2025 academic year with specifications designed to reduce the weight of school bags.

One key strategy is dividing textbooks for the second semester into two parts, in accordance with curricula guidelines approved by the General Technical Guidance for all educational levels. This adjustment was made without compromising the quality of printing or educational content, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality learning materials.

The Ministry emphasized that these weight-reduction measures were implemented within the existing budget for printing school books, demonstrating fiscal responsibility and efficiency.

This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to safeguarding students’ physical health by minimizing the risks associated with carrying excessively heavy school bags. The goal is to foster an educational environment that promotes both academic success and the well-being of students.

To ensure a seamless transition, the Supply and Warehouses Department has begun distributing textbooks to schools across all educational districts. This organized distribution plan aims to prepare schools for the second semester of 2024-2025, contributing to a stable and supportive learning environment that aligns with the goals of the new measures.
