Kerala Faces Heatwave as Monsoon Withdraws, Rain Expected at Month’s End

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has confirmed that the 2024 Tula Varsham (Northeast Monsoon) has fully withdrawn from the southern states, including Kerala, with the 2023 Tula Varsham departing on January 14. However, easterly winds could bring heavy rainfall to Kerala on January 31, with showers potentially continuing into the first days of February.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for isolated heavy rain in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts on Thursday, predicting 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain within 24 hours.

In the meantime, Kerala is experiencing intense heat, with the highest temperature in the country recorded in Kannur, reaching 38.2°C, marking a scorching Sunday for the state as the monsoon has fully receded.
