Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has officially approved the use of drones for delivery services, granting a license to the California-based company Matternet. The company’s M2 drones will be deployed for deliveries starting next year. This marks the first-ever license issued by Saudi Arabia for operating drone delivery services. The approval was granted by the General Authority of Civil Aviation.
Drone delivery is known for its speed and cost-effectiveness, and the initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for people in the country. Matternet, which began offering delivery services in Silicon Valley, expanded into the Middle East in 2021 through a partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Health.
