Lieutenant General Sheikh Salem Al-Nawaf, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, has issued Circular No. 22 of 2025, which prohibits police officers from wearing military uniforms in certain public places. This directive was issued after observations that some officers were seen in full military attire at events such as weddings and funerals, a practice that violates Article (5/15) of Law No. 1968/23 concerning the Police Force System and its subsequent amendments. This article specifically forbids officers from engaging in behaviors or appearing in ways that compromise their military dignity.
Under the new circular, police personnel are barred from wearing their military uniforms in the following locations:
- Cooperative societies
- Central markets
- Shopping malls
- Wedding and event halls
- Cemeteries
- Mourning councils
However, exemptions will be granted to those whose professional duties require their presence in these areas. Any officer found violating these guidelines will be referred to the appropriate authority for investigation and may face disciplinary measures. The Undersecretary has urged assistant undersecretaries, general managers, department directors, and all ministry staff to ensure strict compliance with the new rules.
