Kuwait Municipality Finds No Violations in Mangaf Fire Investigation

Kuwait City: The Kuwait Municipality has confirmed that no violations were found in the Al-Mangaf fire investigation, following an inquiry by Municipal Council member Khaled Al-Dagher. The investigation was conducted under Ministerial Resolution No. 329 of 2024 to assess the compliance of the affected building.

A field inspection by the Engineering Audit and Follow-up Department revealed that the rental residential building—comprising a ground floor, mezzanine, six floors, and a rooftop—had previously addressed all reported violations (Report No. 08257). The Municipality confirmed that the building is now fully compliant with its license, and no further legal action is being pursued.

Tragic Fire Incident in Mangaf

On June 12, 2024, a devastating fire broke out in a six-story residential building in Mangaf, Kuwait, claiming 50 lives, mostly Indian migrant workers. The fire started in the ground-floor security room, spreading quickly to the kitchen and lower levels. Many victims succumbed to smoke inhalation while asleep, while others suffered fatal injuries while attempting to escape. Around 50 people were injured, including five firefighters.

The building housed 196 male migrant workers employed by NBTC Group. A preliminary investigation identified an electrical short circuit in the security guard’s room as the cause, with flammable partition materials worsening the situation. Additionally, residents were unable to escape to the rooftop due to a locked door.

Following the tragedy, the building owner was arrested for negligence, and authorities stressed the urgent need for stricter building safety regulations. The incident gained international attention, with Indian officials offering condolences and arranging for the repatriation of the victims’ remains.
