Manama: Bahrain’s parliament has approved a new law to provide free kindergarten education, marking a significant step toward integrating early childhood education into the mainstream system. The amendment to the 2005 Education Law, proposed by Strategic Thinking Bloc member Basema Mubarak, received unanimous support.
The parliament’s services committee endorsed the proposal, highlighting its potential to enhance education quality and ensure fair wages for kindergarten teachers, aligning their salaries with government school educators. Experts believe the move will promote equal opportunities for children, improve working conditions in the sector, and reduce financial burdens on Bahraini families.
According to the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee, the reform will lower living costs while helping nurseries improve wage structures. During the 2022-2023 school year, 19,043 children aged three to six were enrolled in kindergartens, demonstrating the demand for state-supported early education.
