Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has thwarted a large-scale cyber attack targeting telecommunications towers and banks, leading to the arrest of an international gang of Chinese nationals involved in the scheme. The Criminal Security Sector’s Cybercrime Department uncovered the operation following reports from telecom companies and financial institutions about unauthorized network intrusions and fraudulent messages impersonating banks.
Investigations revealed that the hackers used advanced electronic devices to infiltrate communication networks, sending deceptive messages to steal banking credentials and funds. Security teams traced suspicious signals to a vehicle in the Farwaniya area, where they arrested a Chinese national and confiscated hacking tools. A subsequent search of his residence, authorized by the Public Prosecution, led to the discovery of additional devices used to analyze stolen data.
During interrogations, the suspect admitted to collaborating with others in the cyber fraud scheme. Authorities identified and apprehended the remaining gang members, uncovering their use of forged identities to evade detection. The suspects have been handed over to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national cybersecurity, emphasizing its continuous efforts to enhance security systems and combat digital threats to ensure the stability and protection of Kuwait’s data and infrastructure.
