Riyadh and several other regions in Saudi Arabia are experiencing a severe cold wave, with temperatures plummeting over the weekend. The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) reported that areas including the northern borders, Tabuk, Al Jawf, Hail, and parts of Medina have recorded temperatures as low as 0°C to 2°C, with further drops expected. Some northern regions have already seen temperatures fall below freezing, and by Tuesday, the cold front will extend to Al Qassim, northern Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, where temperatures are forecasted to hover between 0°C and 2°C. In some areas, particularly in the north and northeast, temperatures could drop as low as -4°C.
Meanwhile, Qatar is also expecting significant weather changes. The Qatar Meteorological Department (QMD) has forecasted an increase in temperature starting Monday, February 24, due to strong northwesterly winds. These winds, expected to last for six days, will bring a drop in temperature followed by a rise. The shift in weather conditions may lead to dust storms and reduced visibility, prompting authorities to advise against sea activities and fishing.
Similar weather patterns are anticipated in the UAE, where a low-pressure system from the southwest and an extending high-pressure system from the west will impact conditions until February 26. From Monday to Wednesday, temperatures will drop significantly, particularly in coastal and western regions. The NCM also predicts light to moderate rainfall in the coastal, northern, and eastern parts of the country from Monday evening through Tuesday.
