New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has nominated Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, along with nine other prominent figures, to spearhead a campaign against obesity. Taking to social media platform X, Modi emphasized the need for collective action to combat rising obesity rates and encouraged his nominees to raise awareness about reducing excessive oil consumption in daily diets.
The list of nominees includes notable personalities from diverse fields, such as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, industrialist Anand Mahindra, Bhojpuri actor-singer Nirahua, Olympic shooter Manu Bhaker, weightlifting champion Mirabai Chanu, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, actor R Madhavan, playback singer Shreya Ghoshal, and philanthropist-MP Sudha Murty. The initiative follows Modi’s appeal in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, where he urged people to cut their oil intake by 10% and inspire others to do the same.
Highlighting the growing health risks associated with obesity, the Prime Minister called on the nominees to further expand the movement by nominating 10 more individuals each. This chain effort aims to create widespread public awareness and encourage healthier eating habits across the country.
