The Riyadh Metro network has added a new station, Qasr Al Huqum, which officially opened to the public at 6 am. As one of the four main stations in the metro system, it plays a crucial role in connecting the Blue and Orange lines with the city’s bus services. Conveniently located near government institutions, historical sites, markets, and residential areas, the station enhances accessibility across the city.
Spanning 22,500 square meters and reaching a depth of 35 meters, Qasr Al Huqum station features a blend of traditional and modern architectural elements. The facility includes 17 elevators, 46 escalators, numerous retail shops, and a shaded park, offering a seamless travel experience for commuters. The Riyadh Metro now consists of 85 stations, with 34 above ground and 47 underground.
Since its launch on December 1 last year, the Riyadh Metro has transported 18 million passengers in just 85 days. With a maximum daily capacity of 3.6 million passengers, the metro is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city. Built at a cost of $25 billion (93.75 billion riyals), the project marks a major step in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to modernize urban transportation.
