Small Plane Crashes in Brazil’s Tourist City Gramado, Killing 10 and Injuring Several

A tragic plane crash occurred in Brazil’s tourist city of Gramado, claiming 10 lives and leaving over 12 people injured. The small Piper aircraft, piloted by local businessman Luis Claudio Galeazzi, lost control shortly after takeoff from Canela Airport and crashed into a residential area just 10 kilometers away. The plane collided with the chimney of a house, the second floor of another building, and a mobile shop, causing significant destruction and casualties in the densely populated area.

All 10 people on board, including Galeazzi, his wife, three daughters, other family members, and a company employee, were killed in the crash. Among the injured were residents affected by the impact and smoke inhalation, with two in critical condition. The accident highlights the dangers posed by such incidents in crowded areas, where the risk of collateral damage is high.

The crash has devastated Gramado, a popular cold-weather destination in the Serra Gaucha mountains that attracts many tourists during the festive season. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash while extending support to the victims’ families. This tragic event underscores the importance of rigorous safety measures in aviation, particularly in areas near populated regions.
