The Kerala Health Department is set to launch ‘Care Kerala’ in January 2025, a digital platform aimed at providing comprehensive relief for bedridden patients. The initiative brings together the state’s palliative care services under one umbrella, ensuring swift delivery of care, medicine, and medical equipment. Requests made through the platform will be relayed in real-time to palliative units, voluntary organizations, and ward representatives for immediate action, supported by local community volunteers.
In its first phase, the project will prioritize bedridden patients, with plans to extend services to those suffering from chronic illnesses in the next phase. All bedridden individuals will be registered via palliative units, while other patients will be included through community efforts. The platform also ensures food delivery and access to assistive devices like wheelchairs and walkers, bridging gaps in service availability with nearby units.
Developed in collaboration with the Digital University and Kerala Startup Mission, the platform is mobile-friendly, making it easily accessible for all users. The project, spearheaded by the National Health Mission (NHM), is expected to be fully operational within six months of its launch, offering much-needed support to patients across the state.
