The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy (MEW) has made strides in increasing the proportion of Kuwaiti employees, who now constitute 97.7% of its workforce. According to recent statistics, 170 Kuwaiti nationals were hired between January and November 2024, raising the ministry’s total staff count to 35,427, compared to 34,395 in the same period of 2023. Meanwhile, the number of non-Kuwaiti employees dropped from 862 to 820, reflecting a decline of 42 expatriates.
In a related development, the ministry has referred a KD 1.495 million tender for constructing, completing, and maintaining a new water filling plant in West Funaitees to the State Audit Bureau (SAB) for review. This facility is set to replace the Mishref freshwater filling station and address long-standing challenges in the area, particularly those caused by high population density. Once approved by the SAB, the ministry plans to proceed with the contract signing for the project, which has been in the pipeline for several years and is expected to enhance freshwater availability in the surrounding regions.
