The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Abu Dhabi has introduced smart electronic gates on the Dubai-Hatta Road and other major roads in desert areas to enhance road safety and reduce accidents. These smart gates aim to prevent stray animals from entering the road, ensuring smoother traffic flow and minimizing the risk of accidents caused by animal crossings.
The RTA shared the announcement via social media, highlighting that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety across the emirate. The smart gates are equipped with advanced technology designed to monitor traffic and safeguard drivers from potential hazards, such as wild animals crossing the roads, particularly in desert regions where such incidents are more common.
In addition to this initiative, RTA has also been working on improving road infrastructure. One of the major projects underway is the construction of 16.5 km of internal roads in Al Aweer 1, designed to enhance residential area accessibility. This development will introduce additional entrances, intersections, and roundabouts along Emirates Road, aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing travel times for residents.
Furthermore, the RTA has committed to installing additional smart electronic gates throughout the emirate this year to further strengthen road safety. This proactive approach to infrastructure development is in line with the UAE’s broader vision to ensure safer roads for all commuters.
In a related move, the emirate of Ajman has also introduced a smart monitoring system to enhance traffic safety. Launched on October 1, this system uses AI-powered cameras to detect violations such as the use of mobile phones while driving and failure to wear seat belts. These cameras are installed at 26 strategic locations, aimed at curbing road accidents and improving overall safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
