Gaza: The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry reported on Friday that 88 people were killed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll from the prolonged conflict between Israel and Hamas to 46,876. The ministry also stated that over 110,642 individuals have been injured throughout the 15 months of hostilities that began following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
Agency spokesperson Mahmud Bassal highlighted that since the announcement of a ceasefire, Israeli forces have killed 73 people, including 20 children and 25 women. An additional 230 people were injured in continuing bombardments, despite the truce announcement.
The ceasefire agreement, which initially promised a six-week pause in fighting, was expected to facilitate negotiations, including the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and the exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian detainees. While Hamas confirmed its approval of the deal through Qatari and Egyptian mediators, Israel has delayed its implementation.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attributed the postponement to a disagreement with Hamas over the deal’s terms, accusing the group of reneging on commitments. Hamas, however, denied the claims, maintaining its adherence to the agreement brokered by mediators.
This ceasefire, although uncertain, has been a beacon of hope for the thousands of families affected by the devastating conflict.
